Tourists don't live on visiting monuments alone. In fact an aspect that is gaining more and more strength when visiting new destinations is to taste the cuisine of the region or to try adventure tourism in the most spectacular places of the area. Today we want to mention another way of tourism, we are talking about travelling around the most captivating roads.
We have forgotten this aspect of tourism quite often but it can become one of the most rewarding. Getting a car and taking a nearby route allows us to approach our tourist destination in a less familiar way but equally amazing. Thank to these routes we will take delight in stunning views, in meeting the most genuine people in the region and in reaching parts not so crowded with tourists. These are some of our suggestions:
· National Tourist Road Geiranger - Trollstigen: It is a stretch or road of 106 kilometers that runs on the west, between Lake Langvatnet in Strynefjell and Sogge bridge in Romsdal, where we reach the famous fjords. It is a spectacular road through the wilderness that help us enjoy the rough terrain: walls, cliffs, valleys, steep slopes...
· Grossglockner Strasse: is a high mountain road located in Austria. it connects Salzburgerland with Carinthia and runs about 48 miles along the Grossglockner, the highest peak in the country with 3.798m. During our journey we will reach heights of 2504 meters and we will have the privilege of passing along the glacier that sticks out the slopes of this peak. It is only passable from May to November, due to the snow.
· Road Transfagarasan: named the best road in the world by the tv show Top Gear, this route marvels us with its sharp curves which cross a mountain area that links Sibiu to Pitesti. It was created by the dictator Ceausescu in the 70s and it will delight us not only for the ride itself, but also for the chance to see a glacier lake.
· Millau Viaduct: It is a huge bridge 2460 meters long opened at the end of 2004 that crosses the Tam river. Its main feature is its seven huge concrete pillars supporting it. It links Causse Larzac with Causse Rouge in the Aveyron region. This engineering work will dazzle us not only with its imposing shape but also because it challenges the laws of nature. It held the distinction of being the highest road bridge in the world until last year.
How about you? What do you think is the most captivating road of Europe?
